Odisha’s eminent freedom fighter and former MLA of Bhograi Durga Shankar Das passed away today at the district headquarters hospital here.
Das was 97 years old at the time of his death. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the district headquarters hospital on August 11 for old-age problems. He breathed his last at 8 AM today.
As news of his death spread, several eminent persons queued up at the hospital to have a last glimpse of the departed leader.
Das, who was born in 1920, quit college in 1942 to join ‘Quit India’ movement. He represented Bhograi Bhograi constituency in the Odisha Assembly from 1957 to 1961. He was elected to the Assembly on a Congress ticket.
