Bhubaneswar Poetry Festival on October 8

By Odisha Story Bureau, Bhubaneswar:

Come October Bhubaneswar, the temple city, is going to witness the biggest poetry extravaganza in eastern India. 1st Bhubaneswar Poetry Festival (BPF 2016), a national event, is going to be held on 8th October 2016, Saturday.

Durga Puja gives a boost to Odia literature every year and adds thousands of pages of printed words published in a month. During Puja Bhubaneswar attracts a large number of litterateurs from far corners of the state.

To add more literary flavour to this festive season, BPF 2016, an initiative by PEN IN Publication & Media, attempts to unite celebrated literary figures and young poets from Odisha and other states of the nation under one roof.

The one day event will be held at Mayfair lagoon, one of the finest hotels in the state and the best destination for literary congregations.

Festival adviser, poet and thinker Haraprasad Das said,

The Bhubaneswar Poetry Festival is designed to be a landmark event for showcasing poetry. It could take in its sweep the unfolding landscape of global poetry, the new voice of Indian poetry and the kaleidoscopic range of Odia poetry.

Mr Das further added,

It hopes to bring together three generations of poets practicing the art of poetry and in the process redefine the eternally renewable source of poetry. The emphasis of course would be the contemporary new poetry in all its splendor, written anywhere in the world, particularly in Odisha.

About a hundred invited guest poets, including 50 speakers and 50 poets are scheduled to grace the occasion, said author and festival Director Subhransu Panda.

Subhransu Panda said,

Gradually our heritage city Bhubaneswar is becoming the cultural heart of the nation. Almost every month we are witnessing numerous national events on art, dance, song, literature and intellectual discourde. Each year Bhubaneswar, alone, is witnessing more than 10 national level literature festivals. Odisha has a great tradition of Poetry, since 7th century. To execute our literary enthusiasm and to showcase poetry in particular, we are organsing BPF.

Mr Panda further added,

BPF is is the first-of-its-kind in eastern India.  This festival, exclusively for Poetry, aims at promoting Indian poetic tradition. I hope, within few years, BPF will be recognized as the largest poetry fest in India.

More details on this festival will be briefed in a media conference, weeks before the event, said Mr Panda.
