7 Lakh ex-gracia declared for the family of dead
Today, in a shocking incident, six passengers were electrocuted and 25 injured when the bus they were travelling in came in contact with a live electricity supply line in Bhuban in Dhenkanl district.
The injured have been admitted to Bhuban Hospital while two of them have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, Dhenkanal SP Basant Panigrahy said. The mishap took place near Sishumandir Square in Bhuban NAC area when the bus was taking a detour following a road mishap.
According to source, Kamakshyanagar-Bhuban road had reported vehicular congestion after a home guard died in a road accident following which traffic was diverted. The bus “Sanyasi” took a detour when it came in contact with the live wire which was apparently sagging. Anticipating law and order problem, Dhenkanal Police mobilised force to the area.
Local tehsildar, sub-collector and police officials rushed to the spot and expedited the rescue operation.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for kin of each of the deceased. He also declared that the State government will bear all medical expenses of the injured, who are undergoing treatment at various hospitals. Also, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) declared Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia each to the family of dead.
Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das has ordered a probe into the matter and Commerce and Transport minister Ramesh Majhi sought a detailed report on the incident.
