Recently Vice Admiral A K Chawla, AVSM, NM, VSM an illustrious alumnus of Sainik School Bhubaneswar visited his alma mater after three decades. At present he is heading the personal branch of Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy).
On his arrival Capt (IN) Kanchan Mukherjee, Principal Sainik School extended a warm welcome in the presence of Lt Cdr Sushil Kumar, Vice-Principal, Lt Cdr N Santhosh Kumar, Administrative Officer, Mr Pritish Basa, President old boys Association, Mr Amitabh Swain, Secretary, other OBA officials and all staff members. The senior cadets of the school extended a spectacular Guard of Honour of the Chief Guest.
During his visit he paid homage at the school ‘War Memorial’ to the gallant martyrs of the school. In his address to the present generation cadets he remembered his nostalgic moments of the past and experience as a Sainik School Cadet. He advised the cadets never ever to forget to sets of people in life like parent and teachers. He emphasized that it is due to the grooming in the school above 600 alumnus could join armed forces as officers and nine of them could rise to the positions of three star generals equivalent to the rank of Lieutenant Generals.
Vice Admiral Chawla appealed to the cadets to make the best use of the available resources in the school and join armed forces on top priority. By setting his own example he spoke that it is only Indian Navy which could make possible to him to visit 40 countries.
He expressed his ecstasy as the school is scaling to greater heights day by day and thirteen of the cadets have qualified in UPSC examination this year. During his stay he also inaugurated a Cold Storage Facility in Cadets’ Mess and attended the 46th Annual Meet of the OBA.
