  • Sonia Gandhi calls for alliance against BJP

At the India Today Conclave 2018 in Mumbai Congress parliamentary party (CPP) chief and former party supremo Sonia Gandhi said, Congress wouldn’t let BJP come back to power in 2019. Congress will come back to power again in next general election, said Sonia.

She said that the Modi government has failed to fulfill the promises made during the election campaign in the run up to 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

“Achhe Din will soon be India Shining,” she said. India Shining was the NDA’s platform ahead of 2004; Achhe Din was the NDA’s ahead of 2014.

Sonia Gandhi spoke about politics, family, life at the coclave after demitting the post of Congress president.

Earlier addressing a CPP meeting, Gandhi called for a broad-based alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha election to defeat BJP. She said change is coming as evident in her party’s performance in Gujarat and the recent by-elections in Rajasthan.

Her remarks came days after she appealed to opposition parties to build a consensus at the national level and bury differences to put up a united front.

Political analysts are of the view that there is a growing realisation within the opposition parties that the BJP will regain power in 2019 if they don’t form a grand alliance.

Out of 30 states Congress is in power only in 4 states, while BJP is in 15 states. In another 4 states BJP has managed an alliance. Rest 7 states are governed by left and regional parties.
