Koraput Hosts Its 1st Ever Literary Festival

Koraput will never forget the day,25th March 2018. As major cities are blessed with gala events and luxurious literary shows around the year, for the first time Koraput, a small city in Odisha hosts a day long literary extravaganza – Koraput Literary Festival 2018. The first Koraput Literary Festival, also known as #KLFOdisha, witnessed a congregation of about 300 authors including 200 from undivided Koraput district here at the scenic backdrop of Tribal Museum premises.

Koraput Literary Festival, organised by leading publication house PEN IN Books and news portal Odisha Story (both units of Odia Media Private Limited), was inaugurated by senior critic and author Professor Dr Adikanda Sahu. Koraput MLA Krishna Chandra Sagaria joined the inaugural session as Chief Guest.

Tribal Researcher Dr Jagabandhu Samal, Secretary Shabar Shreekshetra Management Gadadhar Parida and Director Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS) Dr Prafulla Chandra Mohapatra were seen on stage as Guests of Honour.

Senior Author Dr Ajay Swain and senior poet Dr Aparna Mohanty received the first Koraput Literary Awards (Koraput Sahitya Samman 2018) for their contribution towards Odia fiction and poetry respectively.

Poet Pritidhara Samal, Poet Rabi Satpathy, Author Meena Swain, Poet Madhuri Panda, Author Madhusudan Swain, Blood Donation motivator Dr Ratikant Khatua, Disable Sportsman Sukharam Majhi, Journalist Patitapaban Sahu and Youth Leader Kamal Rathor were felicitated during the inaugural session.

Inaugural session was presided over by festival director and author Subhransu Panda.

The post inaugural session witnessed a discussion on Odia Literature and Koraput. The session moderated by poet Rabi Satpathy witnessed a vivid debate by authors from undivided Koraput district – Dr Pradip Kumar Mishra, Dr Ashok Kumar Tripathy, Dr Rajendra Padhi, Jaladhar Swain, Uday Chandra Mishra and Gobardhan Panda.

The third session was a debate on ‘Contemporary Odia Fiction’. The session was moderated by author Ashish Kumar Gadanayak while Dr Narayan Panda, Sadanand Tripathy, Dr Ajay Swain, Aditeswar Mishra and Pradip Nayak participated the discussion.

The fourth session was ‘Contemporary Odia Poetry’ moderated by poet Durga Prasad Panda. Dr Aparna Mohanty, Biraja Bal, Sushant Nayak, Runu Mohanty, Amiya Ranjan Mohapatra and Dr Pritidhara Samal participated the discussion.

5th Session, Poetry Recitation, 1st Koraput Literary Festival, Tribal Museum, Koraput, 25th March 2018

The fifth session was for poetry recitation compered by poet Meena Swain and Jhansi Singh. More than 40 poets recited their poems during this session.

Sixth and the last session was held inside the convention hall of Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS) where a documentary ‘REM SAM’, based on the life and culture of Bonda Tribe, was screened. COATS director Dr Prafulla Chandra Mohapatra and Bonda language expert Gobardhan Panda briefed more about Bonda tribe while Dr Narayan Panda, Dr Ajay Swain, Ashish Gadanayak,  Assistant Professor Souranv Gupta reviewed the film.

6th Session, Documentary Film Screening, 1st Koraput Literary Festival, Tribal Museum, Koraput, 25th March 2018

The daylong event that inaugurated at 11 am in the morning was ended at 8pm in the evening with the movie screening. Next year the 2nd edition of the festival will be more engaging, said festival director Subhransu Panda.
