PM Modi to inaugurate the Convention

100 Students from Odisha to participate


SPIC MACAY is organizing its 6th International Convention in its 41st year at IIT Kharagpur from June 3rd to the 9th, 2018.

The non-profit had five International Conventions in the past 5 years at IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati and at the IIM Calcutta. In the Convention held this year, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, agreed to give the inaugural address. In two of the previous Conventions, the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee had graced the inauguration with his presence.

Already SPIC MACAY has 2324 registrations from 28 states and Union Territories in India and some from abroad. From these, 1000 young delegates have been chosen to participate in this year’s convention. Concerts by leading exponents of Indian Classical Music – Carnatic & Hindustani, Classical dance performances, Folk performances by prominent artists, Theatre performances, Lectures & Interactions, a Cinema screening with a discussion, a Heritage Walk, Workshops in classical music, dance, folk and crafts, Hatha Yoga, Nada Yoga and various other activities will also be part of the schedule during the convention. The concluding day will have a ‘Classical Overnight’ concert beginning at 8 pm and ending at 6 am the following morning with non-stop concerts by some of India’s top performing artists.

Padma Bhushan Awardees: Prof. T N Krishnan, Vidwan T V Sankaranarayanan, Begum Parween Sultana, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram, Shri Javed Akhtar;

Padma Shri Awardees: Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty, Guru Ghanakanta Bora, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar , Smt. Shabana Azmi, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar;

Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardees: Vidhushi Shruti Sadolikar Katkar, Vidhushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Vidwan Seshampatti Sivalingam, Vidhushi Priyadarshini Govind;

Sangeet Kalanidhi Awardee: Vidwan N Ravikiran;  are some of the renowned artists who will be performing in the Convention.

From Odisha about 100 students are selected from IIT, NISER, NIT, KIIT, IIIT and other institutions are going to participate in the IIT, Kharagpur convention from 3rd June to 9th June, 2018. This is the information given by the Founder Chairperson  Dr. Prof. Kiran Seth and the State Co-ordinator Mrs. Babita Mishra to the media in a press note.
