CM Meets Odisha’s Canal Man Daitari Naik

Bhubaneswar: Known as Odisha’s Canal Man, 70-year-old tribal man Daitari Naik from Baitarani village under Banspal block of Keonjhar district, called on CM Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence in Bhubaneswar yesterday.

Daitari carved out around three km long canal through a mountain with a hoe and crowbar.

During the meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik praised him for his contribution towards Green Odisha. Naik, who is called the ‘Canal Man’ of Odisha had carved the canal to bring water to his village by breaking rocks for cultivation.

The Chief Minister took to Twitter and wrote,

Inspiring to meet septuagenarian farmer Daitari Naik of Keonjhar district. He created a 3 km canal through a mountain with a hoe and a crowbar. The grit he showed is exemplar for humanity and his contribution to a #GreenOdisha is immense.
