Congress MLA Krushna Sagaria to Quit Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Congress MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria has decided to resign from Odisha Legislative Assembly citing failure to provide justice to Kunduli gang rape victim.

The Koraput MLA Sagaria called a press conference today to announce his decision. He will hand over his resignation to the Assembly Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat in November first week.

Addressing the media Sagaria said,

Kunduli incident was a very sensitive issue in which the victim herself alleged that she was gang raped. We also fought alongside to provide justice to her. As a people’s representative from the same constituency that she belongs, I had promised the victim and her kin to provide them justice. But even after a year of the incident, none have been arrested. The government has also tried to hoodwink people on the pretext of judicial commission and crime branch probe but to no avail. To some extent I am also responsible for the injustice to Kunduli girl I have therefore decided to quit from my post on moral grounds.

Asked about whether his infighting with Jeypore MLA and Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati was a reason behind his decision, Sagaria ruled out any such issues.

Earlier this month, he resigned from PCC general secretary post.
