Odisha Governor Shows Great Gesture

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal made an example going beyond the protocol and touching feet of another guest on stage.

The photos of Prof Ganeshi Lal touching feet of freedom fighter Gour Hari Das have gone viral in social media for last couple of days.

The incident happened last month during an award ceremony at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar where Governor joined as chief guest. Odisha leading media and publishing house Odia Media organised Odisha Excellence Award ceremony on 15th October 2018 Odisha. In this festival Governor joined as Chief Guest and freedom fighter Gour hari Das joined as Guest of Honour. At the end of the event Festival Director and author-journalist Subhransu Panda felicitated Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal and Gour Hari Das. During felicitation Governor touched the feet of Sri Das and won the hearts of audiences with his simplicity and humility.

The first ever Odisha Excellence Award was conferred upon 17 exceptional Odia personalities and 3 successful organizations from Odisha in this special event. Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lalinaugurated the award festival and gave away all 20 awards. Celebrated Odia Freedom Fighter Gour Hari Das also joined the award festival as esteemed guest. Odia Media director, author and journalist Subhransu Panda was also shared the stage with two stalwart guests.

Devdas Chhotray for excellence in Literature, Sampad Mohapatra for excellence in Journalism, actor Mihir Das for excellence in Cinema, music scientist Prem Anand for excellence in Music, income tax commissioner Sarat Kumar Das for excellence in Public Service, Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi secretary Manash Ranjan Jena for excellence in Art, Tenon group COO Sangram Dhar for excellence in Leadership, poet-activist Sankarsan Parida for excellence in Language, Dr. Anita Panda for excellence in Health Service, Konark International Cyclothon founder Sudhir Dash for excellence in Environment, Sarat Chandra Bhadra for excellence in Culture, Rabi Satapathy for excellence in youth development, Pandit Matruprasad Mishra for excellence in Philosophy, Biplab Jena for excellence in Social Service, Surya Mohanty for excellence in Theatre, Dr. Monica Das for excellence in Education and Swagat Routray for excellence in Skill Development received Odisha Excelence Award 2018.

Likewise Swosti Group of Hotels for excellence in Hospitality, JSPL Foundation for excellence in Sustainable Social Development and Adyant College for excellence in Education were also conferred with Odisha Excellence Award 2018. Swosti Group of Hotels Director Jitendra Kumar Mohanty, JSPL Vice President Prashant Kumar Hota and Adyant College founder Ajay Bahadur Singh received awards from Odisha Governor.

Festival director Subhransu Panda also felicitated His Excellency Governor of Odisha Prof. Ganeshi Lal. Governor himself felicitated freedom fighter Gour Hari Das. During felicitation Governor touched the feet of Sri Das and won the hearts of audiences with his simplicity and humility.

A souvenir edited by festival coordinator Gayatri Mavuru was also released by guests on dias. The souvenir contains details of the award ceremony, about the organization, profile of guests and awardees.

While festival director Subhransu Panda delivered the welcome address and introduction speech, organising team member Suchismita Prusty gave thanks at the end of the award ceremony.

Award Festival was followed by screening of Bollywood biopic “Gour Hari Dastaan”, directed by Anant Mahadevan and based on the life struggle of Odia freedon fighter Gour hari Das. Gour Hari Das, staying in Mumbai since 1952, was originally from Balasore district in Odisha. He had been arrested and jailed for disobeying British Law during freedom movement.

Under the leadership of author and journalist Subhransu Panda, Odia Media also organizes numerous national level festivals like Bhubaneswar Literary Festival (earlier known as Bhubaneswar Poetry Festival), Bhasha Festival and Koraput Literary Festival.
