Bhubaneswar: As the 2019 general election is nearing, new political equations are heating up the state. All political parties in Odisha are trying hard to strengthen their team by incorporating new agendas and features. They are trying to boost their strength by importing leaders from other political parties and intellectuals from different walks of life, mostly bureaucrats and journalists.
It’s being speculated that, estranged Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former MP Baijayant Panda is floating a new political outfit. According to sources, he may name his new party as Odisha Janata Dal (OJD). OJD and few other names were sent to the Election Commission of India for approval.
However fearing backstabbing, team Baijayant is maintaining low key over the issue of forming new party. They may catch rebel and dissatisfied leaders from BJD and other parties once tickets are finalised.
According to source, former BJD MLA Naveen Nanda is also a part of the new political party. The party will try to field at least one candidate in each district during next general election with more focus in Dhenkanal district. The former Kendrapada MP may contest from Dhenkanal Parliamentary constituency, sources say.
Now Baijayant is expanding his district outreach event #Heijau – a roadside tea party with the common mass.
Baijayant, once an articulate and prominent face of the ruling BJD, popularly known as Jay Panda, quitted the party in May 2018 amidst growing rift with CM Naveen Patnaik.
