New Delhi: Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar, convicted in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case is likely to surrender before a court at Delhi on December 31 to serve the life imprisonment awarded by the Delhi High Court.
His counsel Anil Kumar Sharma said, “We will comply with the order of the High Court”
On December 21 the High Court had rejected Sajjan’s plea seeking extension till January 30 to surrender by giving reason that the former Congress leader had sought more time to surrender, by giving reasons for settling family affairs related to his children and property and also for filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict.
Sharma said they have removed the objections in their appeal filed at the Apex Court, but the court is on vacation till January 1, and it will not be possible for the hearing to come up before 31st December and also the chances of mentioning it for urgent listing of appeal was not there.
The Supreme Court will open on 2nd January 2019 after the winter break gets over only after that the hearing could be done. He is also likey to appoint a senior counsel fo appearing in the Apex Court.
