Tripple Talaq Bill Passed by Lok Sabha with 245 Votes

New Delhi: The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018 got its accent from Lok Sabha today with 245 votes. Only 11 votes were against it.

The discussion on the Bill started at 2:00 pm and after five hours of its scrutiny it got clearance from the Lok Sabha. All the recommendations from the opposition were rejected. The recommendation of the opposition for sending the Bill to the Joint Select Committee was also rejected.

Congress, Samajwadi Party, RJD, AIDMK and AIUDF rejected this Bill.

Now the Bill will be taken up in the Rajya Sabha. In the Upper House the Government would be needing 123 votes for passing the Bill and the NDA have around 80 seats in Rajya Sabha. The government will not find it easy to clear it from theUpper House, as many of the parties have rejected it.

If passed by the Rajya Sabha, then the law for the ban on tripple talaq will be applicable all over the country except Jammu and Kashmir.
