The Accidental Prime Minister
Though The Indian National Congress alleged distortion of facts, The Accidental Prime Minister is all set to hit cinemas on 11th January 2019. based on Sanjay Baru’s book, the film depicts the political life of former prime minister Manmohan Singh. Anupam Kher has played the lead role as Manmohan Singh.
Narendra Modi Biopic
Paresh Rawal will be seen as PM Narendra Modi in a biopic. No more information are available about the movie. However Rawal, a BJP leader and a Member of Parliament himself, had previously said that getting into the shoes of PM Modi won’t be easy. “It will be a hugely challenging role,” he remarked.
Indira Gandhi Biopic
Vidya Balan will be seen as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi soon in a biopic. However this movie will not be released in theatres. It will be a web series based on Sagarika Ghose’s book, Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.
The most awaited political biopic after Accidental Prime Minister is Thackeray. The bilingual biopic on Bal Thackeray has kicked up a storm, with many slamming it for lines referencing south Indians in a derogatory manner. The biopic, on the life of late Shiv Sena chief, has also received objections from the Central Board of Film Certification, and among others like actor Siddharth, who took to Twitter to call out the ‘hate speech’. Nawazuddin Siddiqui starred Tackeray will hit the floor on 25 January 2019.
After a year gap, Varsha Priyadarshini will be back weaving magic on the silver screen with ‘Nimki – Nimpur Ru Naveen Nivas’. The Odia movie depicts the story of a ordinary village girl’s journey to Bhuaneswar to meet Odisha’s chief minister Naveen Patnaik. In the movie teaser images of Naveen Patnaik, Biju Patnaik and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) flags are being seen. Written and directed by Susant Mani, Nimki may be released before 2019 elections.
Telugu-language biographical film about Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009. The film is written and directed by Mahi V. Raghav and stars Mammootty as YSR. The movie will be released on 8 February 2019.
Udyama Simham is a biopic of Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao. Alluri Krishnamraju will be directing the biopic. Kalvakuntla Nageswara Rao is producing it on Padmanayaka Productions Banner.
The Iron Lady
On Jayalalithaa’s second death anniversary, on December 5, the makers have announced that Nithya Menen will be reprising J Jayalalithaa in the film. Further, it is speculated that Varalaxmi Sarathkumar might be seen as Sasikala (J Jayalalithaa’s companion). It was also revealed that a grand inauguration ceremony will be held in the coming months. The pre-production work is currently underway and the film is expected to go on floors on February 24, which falls on J Jayalalithaa’s birthday.
