“The Accidental Prime Minister” Will be Put on Halt in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Youth Congress of Odisha has threatened that the release of the Bollywood movie “The Accidental Prime Minister” will be stopped in the State, owing to the incorrect portrayal of various characters in the Anupam Kher – Akshay Khanna – starred political drama.

After the release of an official trailer of the film in you tube, which is a biopic on the former Prime Minister and Congress Party Leader, Dr. Shri Manmohan Singh, the Youth Congress has decided to protest against its release. The movie is based on a book with the similar name written by Sanjaya Baru, who was the media advisor of Dr. Singh.

Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress (OPYC) Loknath Maharathi said that, in the trailer of the movie there is an attempt to hamper the image of both, the leader (Dr. Singh) and the party.

He also added that, they are not happy and it is not acceptable to them, the way Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and the Congress Party are being portrayed. They demand a full screening of the film before its official release in India and abroad. They also demanded that the producer and director will have to re-edit the film if there are any un-factual scenes or incorrect facts.

Maharathy said his party will send a letter to the film’s producer demanding a pre-release screening of the film. “We will hit the streets if our demand goes unfulfilled”.

A Congress leader alleged that the movie is totally funded by the BJP keeping the elections in mind. “From its trailer, it seems the film has been funded by the BJP to defame Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and the party,” Bhubaneswar District Congress President, Manas Choudhury said.

Earlier in the day, in a similar move, the Maharashtra unit of Youth Congress has decided to stop the film’s release in India and demanded a special screening. A letter in this regard was sent to the producers of the movie demanding a re-look into the portrayal of various characters in the film.

Directed by Vijay Gutte, the political drama features German actor Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi, Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi and Aahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi.

The film is slated to release on January 11, 2019.
