Kolkata Witnesses India’s Largest Residential Run

Bhubaneswar/Kolkata: Kolkata witnessed India’s largest residential run on Saturday as 450 residents of Uniworld competed in Unirun 4.0. The event has been the brainchild of “Unirunners” a unique athletic running group which focuses primarily on residential complexes. This year’s Unirun event was also noteworthy as it was the first ever timed chip run in a residential complex.

The event was held in and around Uniworld City, Rajarhat, Kolkata. Uniworld City is a 100 acre gated complex that is home to more than 1000 families with an excellent cosmopolitan outlook. The run included a chip timed run consisting of 3 categories i.e. 5k, 10k and 15k.

One of the city’s most sought after nutrition and diet coach, Kavita More presented UniRun 4.0 as its Title Sponsor, thereby associating herself with a venture that take a step towards promoting health and fitness with this sporting activity.

Dedicated to increasing public awareness about healthy eating, Kavita More brings her many years of experience to the sphere of nutrition and dietary regime with the objective of helping individuals achieve health and wellness goals with personalized eating plan and nutritional charts tailored to their life style needs.

Naresh Sharma a senior citizen residing in Uniworld city says, “Running has been my passion for long but I never participated in marathons before. Unirunners Kolkata has helped me with the guidance and coaching to be confident enough to participate in marathons. After joining the club a month back this is my second 5 km run and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to running 10km in my next run. I feel happy and proud to be part of the Unirunners club.”

Monalisa who has done her first 10kms and also is one of the Event Ambassador feels, “The volunteers cheering and arrangements enroute were amazing. Nearing the finish line brought on the culmination of every emotion I have felt over the past year and beyond. The race is over but the journey of Health and Fitness that I got introduced to through “UniRun” will stay with me forever.”

“Unirunners” comprises more than 150 active members. The group is a good mix of regular marathon runners, Ultra-run enthusiasts and cycling brevets.  As a group, Unirunners aim to propagate and encourage fitness amongst the residents by adopting a holistic approach which include long runs, speed runs, fitness boot camps, breakfast runs, all with a view to encourage camaraderie amongst the members.

Unirun 4.0 saw a large participation from residents from all ages. Around 450 residents actively participated in the run. All runners were presented with race bib with timing chip, medal, branded t-shirt and trophies for top 3 female & male finishers for all 3 run categories.

Race Director Vijay Dara believes that they are providing a rare opportunity for residents to run together with their family. “A family that runs together, bonds stronger” is new mantra. Shyla, 10 years ran the run because she wants to follow her mum’s footsteps. Varsha, her mom is a fitness freak has been an active runner for last couple of years. Susmita Jha who has been the event ambassador of many runs in Kolkata and a core team member of the organising Team feels Unirun 4 has given the residents an opportunity to discover the athlete in them.

About Unirunners: “Unirunners” properties include “Wellness Challenge”, first of its kind wellness challenge among residents that stretches over a period of one month and encourages residents to adopt running, walking and cycling all in a team concept. Unirunners also brings together Awards” night, a property which recognizes and felicitates notable runners amongst the Unirunner fraternity. They organise “Monthly Idli runs”, which brings together young and old; experienced and newbie runners, to not just run in groups but to also share ideas and encouragement amongst the entire group while enjoying healthy post run breakfast. It has also created a “Couch to 5K program” where in a set of mentors would lead a group of 5 new members achieve their first 5k run.
