Bhubaneswar/Rayagada: Locals suspected a landmine to have been planted by Maoists, which was recovered from the road at Chatikana in Rayagada district today.

On being alerted the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, along with a scientific team and sniffer dogs, rushed to the spot and finally diffused the landmine safely saving human lives and properties from damage.

Maoists plant powerful landmines on State Highways and National Highways, targeting security personnel engaged in anti-extremist exercises in the area, officials said.

Notably, Maoists are observing Bharat Bandh today on the last day of their Martyrs’ Week.
