Damodar Rout Holds Lotus in Delhi

Bhubaneswar: Estranged Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Damodar Rout, earlier who had proposed a BJD-Congress alliance in Odisha to check Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha, joined the saffron party today.

The former BJD minister Rout, who was expelled from the party last year, joined the BJP today evening at the party headquarter in presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP national vice president Baijayant Panda, party’s general secretary and Odisha in-charge Arun Singh.

Damorad said,

After thinking a lot, I decided to join BJP. I will work to “dethrone” the Naveen Patnaik government in Odisha.

Dharmendra Pradhan said, his joining the BJP will strengthen the party in the state.

Baijayant said, Damodar’s decades with Biju uncle & long years in his cabinet and also his son’s, did not aid him against harassment when he exposed corruption at highest levels last year and were expelled from BJD.

However Damodar’s son Sambit Rout is a BJD leader and a ticket aspirant for Paradip Assembly segment.
