Bhubaneswar: A pregnant woman was carried on a stretcher for about 5 kilometres due to the absence of a motorable road.
Jugni Majhi, the wife of Paramananda Majhi of Kapoorgarh village under Khariar block in Nuapada districrt, complained of labour pain this morning following which her family member called the local Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and Anganwadi worker for help.
The ASHA worker called an ambulance from the Khariar Community Health Centre to take Jugni to the hospital. But the emergency vehicle could not reach the village due to poor road.
Finding no means, the health workers and relatives of Jugni carried her on a stretcher for about five kilometres to reach the road from where she was rushed to the Community Health Centre for treatment.
Meanwhile, villagers expressed their displeasure over the matter and reiterated their longstanding demand of a concrete road to the village so as to avoid such incidents in future.
