Kharabela Swain Joins BJP

Bhubaneswar: Utkal Bharat party president Mahamegha Bahan Aira Kharabela Swain joined Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) today along with hundreds of his supporters.

The former BJP parliamentarian made a comeback to the saffron party in presence of union minister Dharmendra Pradhan at BJP’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar.

The party will field him for Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency.

Kharabela told media,

Inspired by the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and to dethrone the corrupt and inefficient BJD government in Odisha, I rejoined BJP. I will contest from Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat.

Kharabela was elected thrice to Lok Sabha on BJP ticket from Balasore (1998, 1999, 2014). Later, he resigned from the party and floated a new political party Utkal Bharat.

Two years back in June 2017, Kharabela Swain alleged that Dharmendra Pradhan was one of the reasons behind his departure from the BJP.

He had tweeted, “Dear Pradhan, who knows you better than me. When I refused to give ticket to an ineligible candidate of your choice in 2009, you had sent your goons to ransack my house, who damaged properties worth Rs 1.5 lakh and had to spend 7 days in jail. But, you embraced them and even clicked photos with them in public. You are still patronising them in Balasore. You were one of the reasons why I left the BJP. When you were involved in such acts to carry out attacks on political adversaries within your party, who gives you right to raise questions on other leaders for a similar act?
