Narendrapur: Tata Steel BSL, formerly known as Bhushan Steel Limited, organised a three-day long exposure visit of members of local women Self Help Groups – (SHGs) to Dandamukundpur in Puri On April 8 and 10, 2019.
Mr Maniknata Naik, Chief, Corporate Services, Tata Steel BSL flagged off the journey from the plant located at Narendrapur in Dhenkanal district in Odisha. Aimed at socio-economic empowerment of the communities around company’s plant, it was organised in partnership with Kalinga Mushroom of Dandamukundpur, Puri.
Reiterating the company’s commitment for empowering communities around the plant Shri Nayak said, Tata Steel BSL will take up more such initiatives in the coming days.
Total 30 SHG members from 12 SHGs from periphery villages Narendrpura and Kurunti have participated in it under the expert guidance of Mr Santosh Kumar Mishra, Founder and Chief Trainer of Kalinga Mushroom. Ms Renuka Singh, Senior Manage, CSR, Tata Steel BSL accompanied the group. The women have shown keen interest in mushroom farming which has good income generating potential in the area. This training taught them on the basics of mushroom farming techniques, how to start the process and take it forward linking with the market.
During the programme, hands on training was given on Oyster mushroom and Paddy straw mushroom, their production procedure, availability and seasonality of mushroom spawn, etc.
This training and exposure programme will be followed by cultivation by the women at their respective villages which will be closely monitored by the experts and CSR team of Tata Steel BSL.
