Bhubaneswar: According to the claims by Odisha government cyclone Fani has affected more than 1.6 crore people in 18,388 villages and 51 towns undern 159 blocks in 14 revenue districts in the state. The death toll stood at 41.
Angul, Balasore, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Khordha, Nayagarh, Puri, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur districts were affected by Fani.
Extremely severe cyclone Fani has claimed its first victim, a 35-year-old woman from Daspalla block in Nayagarh district on May 3. Ranapaur and Bhapur blocks in Nayagarh districts were affected by the cyclonic storm.
While 05 Nos. of 400 KV towers, 27 Nos. of 220 KV towers, 21 Nos. 130 KV towers have been damaged in the cyclone, 04 numbers of 220 KV Grids at Chandaka, Bidanasi, Samagra, Mendhasala and 4 numbers of 132 KV Grid at Puri, Nimapada, Mancheswar and Ransinghpur have been damaged.
Also, 5030 kms. of 33 KV lines, 38613 Kms. of 11 KV lines, 11077 nos. of distribution transformers, and 79485 Kms. of LT lines damaged.
Odisha government presented a preliminary report putting the losses at Rupees 11,942 crore.
The report was presented to the visiting inter-ministerial Central team assessing the cyclone damages. The cyclone affected 1.6 crore people in 18,388 villages and 51 towns in 14 districts of Odisha
According to the latest survey report released to the media by the office of special relief commissioner(SRC), a total number of 16, 659 villages and 52 urban local bodies have been hit by the cyclone in the fourteen affected districts. Five lakh eight thousand houses have also been damaged.
The report further said that the state government had evacuated 14 lakh 70 thousand 197 people before and after the cyclone struck the state. All of them had been sheltered in safer places.
