Lord Jagannath’s Bahuda Yatra With Siblings

Bhubaneswar: Lord of the Universe, Jagannath along with his siblings, Balabhadra and Subhadra, undertakes an annual yatra. The holy yatra starts on every Ashada Shukla Dwitiya from Sri Mandir to his aunt’s house Gundicha Temple. He returns on Ashada Shukla Dashami after staying for nine days.
Lord Jagannath gives darshan to everybody, irrespective of who they are, Hindu or non-Hindu, rich or poor, strong or weak. He gives darshan in all ten avatars. First as fish, then tortoise, third as boar, then Narshimha and then the dwarf. The parasurama avatar followed by Ram avatar, then Krishna avatar, then Buddha avatar and then Vishnu avatar.
After the three chariots are pulled by thousands of devotees back to the main temple till Singhadwara, the Trinity will remain there till July 15.
On Saturday, the Lords will be dressed up in glittering gold ornaments and beautiful clothes on their respective chariots, and provide the devotees the darshan of their ‘Suna Besha’. Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra are adorned with hands and feet made of gold.
On Sunday, the Lords will be offered a refreshing drink called ‘Adhara Pana’, a sweet scented drink made up of milk, sugar, cheese, banana, camphor, black pepper, nutmeg and various other ingredients. It is offered in huge cylindrical earthen pots reaching up to the lips of the deities and the quantity amounts to nearly 100 litres.
On Monday, the deities will be placed back inside the temple while performing Pahandi procession. The yatra concludes with the last ritual of Niladri Bijie which consists of ‘Rasagulla bhog’ to the deities.
